The Arc in Architecture

Meet: Chinese Pagoda, Holloway Circus, Birmingham B1 1EG

While researching and writing 111 Places in Birmingham that you Shouldn't Miss, Ben realised just how frequently rotund and curvaceous forms have appeared around Birmingham through the centuries. These may appear iconically as with the Rotunda and the Round House, or more subtly as with the Library of Birmingham and the under-threat Smallbrook Ringway, as well as the more expensive details of Baroque and Victorian buildings. This 100-minute guide walk is an exploration and celebration of 'the arc' as it appears in Birmingham buildings through time, visiting a selection of city centre buildings to explore, understand and enjoy their form while they still stand.

Footwear suitable for urban walking and weather-appropriate clothing is essential.
