Loci - Lost Coil Locations of London // Ben Waddington
Mon 23 Sept // 8 30 for 9am - 4pm
SOLD OUT
Meet: Caravan City, 22 Bloomberg Arcade, London EC4N 8AR
Drown yourself in the lost history of Coil’s London - a city that permeated the English experimental band’s art, lives, mythology and influences from the early 1980s through to 1999 and beyond.
Ben Waddington, director of the Still Walking guided tour festival, has created an all-day guided tour of the city that visits the locations of Coil’s album art, photo shoots, song themes, biography and associated folklore, dating from centuries past to the present day. The walk is intended as being more ambitious than the revelation of locations (some of which will be known to many Coil fans already) and will get inside the texture of the material, to get closer to what made Coil what they are and how we can continue their legacy and aesthetic in our own lives. The exact locations and themes will be revealed as the walk unfolds. The timing is scheduled to coincide with the Autumnal Equinox.
Ben’s approach is to create a meaningful and fluid dynamic rather than deliver a purely one-way, informative environment, meaning we’ll make the most of having the concentrated knowledge and interest of the group.
The journey will be something of an epic undertaking and the locations will be punctuated with London Transport journeys to make this a manageable event. Participants should expect to be mobile and upright for much of the duration with rest breaks in the form of the longer tube journeys. Please also bring a packed lunch: to make the best use of the time available between 9am and 3pm we won’t stop for a lunch break. Join us for breakfast at Caravan City before the 9am start and for drinks and further conversation at The Old Ship, Hammersmith from around 4pm.
