Being John Baskerville - at the Wrong Gallery salon
an illustrated presentation by Ben Waddington
Thu 2 Oct | 7pm
‘Pay As You Feel’
Address: The Wrong Gallery, 53 Prospect Gallery, Kings Heath B13 9TD
Being the inaugural salon of The Wrong Gallery.
John Baskerville is Birmingham’s great lost hero. The ripples of his printing and typographic influence are still felt today, 250 years after his death. Yet Birmingham presents him as a background player rather than a paradigm of success in art in industry, with his gravestones and japanning lost, his only known portrait held in the depths of the museum storeroom and his grave unmarked.
Ben Waddington explores the greater timeline of John Baskerville—what remains and what was lost—in this illustrated presentation at the Wrong Gallery salon.
The hour-long presentation will be followed by Q&A, conversation and a chance to explore the intriguing and labyrinthine Wrong Gallery.
The Wrong Gallery has toilet facilities, but steep steps up to the ground floor door and stairs throughout the gallery means it is inaccessible for those with limited mobility.
The Wrong Gallery lecture room has limited, and so tickets—available on a Pay As You Feel basis—should be booked in advance.
