John Baskerville is Birmingham’s great lost hero. Through the 18th century, he was successful in the business of industry and design, with his influence still felt today. Yet his presence is barely seen in his adopted home town and the larger arc of his story untold. However, the clues are there if you know where to look…and who to ask. This two-hour guided tour takes in locations, art and artefacts associated with the city’s most eminent printer, type founder, paper maker, japanner, grave stone carver and free-thinker. The walk ends at the Library of Birmingham's Wolfson Centre, where a small selection of Baskerville's books, artefacts and printed material will be on display.
